One of our first stops on our blessed sabbatical in Oxford in 2021 was the Oxford Tower and Prison. If memory serves it's one of the oldest surviving buildings in the city. I think this photo is of a particularly bleak holding room. People were shoved in by the dozens, and dead bodies were stacked in the corners.
