Our first apartment in Chicago was a very cheap (for Chicago) basement apartment in Tri-Taylor. The downside to the cost was that it regularly flooded. On one occasion, torrential rains caused widespread flooding, and we had 2–3 feet of sewer water in the living room. We lost a lot of stuff, including books on bottom shelves.
